In September 2024, Tara Dower broke the Appalachian Trail record, finishing in 40 days, 13 hours faster than the previous male record holder. That same year, 18-year-old Audrey Jimenez became the first girl to win a Division 1 state wrestling title in Arizona, competing against boys. From mountain trails to wrestling mats, women are not just competing in male-dominated spaces, they're leading in performance, endurance, and resilience. Studies suggest that women's muscles are slower to tire during repeated exertion, allowing them to maintain output longer, even if not lifting the heaviest weights.  Female bodies typically rely more on fat for energy, preserving fuel over time. Mental resilience plays a key role in endurance.  Female athletes often push through pain equal to or greater than men's, despite higher pain sensitivity. Mental resilience plays a key role in endurance. Still, most sports research is built around male physiology. Only six percent of exercise science studies focus exclusively on female bodies.
